Regret not getting musical roles in films: Annu Kapoor

Darpan News Desk IANS, 24 Sep, 2014 09:15 AM
  • Regret not getting musical roles in films: Annu Kapoor
Annu Kapoor is a name that has become synonymous with the musical game show "Antakshari". And the National Award winning actor "feels sad" not being offered roles that involve music.

"I will always feel sad for not doing a role which encompasses music, like a music teacher," Annu told IANS.

"All the musical roles in Bollywood are given to people who don't even know the ABCD of music," added the actor, who also hosts a musical show on radio.

He attributes the connection to music to his mother.

"All my knowledge about music comes from my mother. My mother was a good singer and was well versed with classical music. Hence, I got to know about the nuances of music by listening to her," Annu said.

However, the "Vicky Donor" actor asserts that it's not only music but much more was gifted to him by his parents.

"Thanks to my mother and father, I got exposure to different kinds of literature at a very early age. On one hand, I used to read about William Shakespeare, O. Henry and on the other, I read about Ghalib, Tulsidas and Kabir," he said.

"The combination of music and literature is very rare. My mother had both. She was a scholar of Urdu, Persian and Arabic," he added.

The 58-year-old has done a bouquet of roles, including some stellar performances like the naughty inspector of "7 Khoon Maaf" and a sperm-obsessed infertility specialist in film "Vicky Donor".

And he is now ready with a line-up of seven films.

"...All the films are ready like 'Shaukeen' will release in November followed by 'Saat Uchakkey', 'Badlapur Boys' and 'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho'," he said.
