Ranbir's 'Bombay Velvet' Trailer Brings 1960s Era Back In Fashion. Watch Trailer

  • Ranbir's 'Bombay Velvet' Trailer Brings 1960s Era Back In Fashion. Watch Trailer
A stylish retro look, the grey world of smuggling and some jazz amid the old world charm of Bombay of the 1960s - that's the world of Ranbir Kapoor-starrer “Bombay Velvet”, as seen via its trailer released on Thursday.

The trailer was released during the telecast of the India-Bangladesh match at the Cricket World Cup, after much buzz.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie is set in the 1960s and is a large screen adaptation of Gyan Prakash's "Mumbai Fables". The story is about a man with big dreams and the extent he is willing to go to be successful.

In the trailer, Ranbir is introduced as a street-fighter named Johnny Balraj with a curly mop of hair, embroiled in a cage-fight in soiled clothes with hands wrapped in bandages.

On the other hand, Anushka Sharma, his love interest in the film, is Rosie, the star singer of a nightclub. The duo will be seen opposite each other for the first time and it seems their sizzling chemistry won't disappoint cinema-goers. There are lip locks galore!

Ranbir and Anushka's poster of the movie also has an uncanny similarity with how the former's grandfather Raj Kapoor and Nargis posed for the iconic poster of “Barsaat”.

The surprise package of the film's trailer is filmmaker Karan Johar, who will be seen in as Kaizad Khambatta, a negative character. His villainous look with a shrewd smile and a moustache leaves a lasting impression.

Shots of Ranbir with a machine gun; a race course; men in dapper suits, women with the iconic bouffants of the era; give a feel of what the mafia movie will have in store.

Jointly produced by Phantom Films and Fox Star India, the film is set for release on May 15.

The trailer also received positive response from the members of Hindi film fraternity on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Actor Farhan Akhtar shared: “@anuragkashyap72 Looks amazing!!”.

Actress Amrita Rao said that the trailer acted as a time travel for her. “Woke up in the 60's....Most awesome BombayVelvet teaser... Cant wait to watch this one from @anuragkashyap72,” she posted.

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli wrote: “@anuragkashyap72 @karanjohar Fantastic Trailer.”
