Priyanka Chopra's Production Banner Ventures Into Regional Cinema

Darpan News Desk IANS, 15 Jan, 2016 01:09 PM
  • Priyanka Chopra's Production Banner Ventures Into Regional Cinema
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra's production house Purple Pebble Pictures (PPP) is foraying into regional cinema. The banner already has a slate of three films -- one each in Bhojpuri, Marathi and Punjabi -- which will release this year.

"Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi" (Bhojpuri), "Ventilator" (Marathi) and "Ek Onkar" (Punjabi) are the titles to be released by the banner.

"Today, entertainment has a wide canvas which is not restricted by language or medium. At Purple Pebble Pictures, we are aspiring to erase boundaries and create an environment where the content/story is the hero," Priyanka, founder, talent samurai and chief troublemaker at PPP, said in a statement.

The "Bajirao Mastani" actress, who won global fame by winning the People's Choice Award earlier this month, feels India is "filled with exceptional young talent and our endeavour is to provide a platform for talent across the entertainment business to showcase their abilities".

Apart from the regional film initiatives, PPP will also focus on various forms of visual entertainment across all platforms including Hindi cinema, TV content, new age digital content and ad films among others.

"At the end of the day, we are storytellers and that is only enhanced by being able to tell stories in varied languages. Regional cinema in India has such amazing depth and great cinematic talent. It’s been a long cherished dream to be able to tell stories in various languages reaching the heartbeat of our country,” said Priyanka, adding that “there is a huge audience for these films and I am very excited to be a part of these three amazing projects".

Written and directed by Santosh Mishra, “Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi” is a love story which features Nirahau and Amrapali Dubey; “Ventilator”, written and directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, is a ‘dramedy’; and “Ek Onkar”, written by Ambardeep Singh and directed by Karan Guliani, is a coming-of-age story of a young NRI returning to find his roots.
