In an interview given to a magazine, Bollywood ace actor and Quantico star Priyanka Chopra said she doesn’t like the phrase ‘woman of color’ because it puts “women in a box”. Chopra was discussing about the success of her role in Quantico being a South Asian actor and playing an American. 
 
Chopra, who’s known for breaking barriers, said it’s time people start thinking differently and dismiss the term ‘woman of color’.
 
“I know everything is about diversity right now. But I think it should be about humanity. It’s 2016. It’s so easy to separate ourselves and become smaller and smaller pieces of humanity. I don’t like the phrase ‘woman of color.’ I feel like that puts women in a box. 
 
 
I’m a woman, whether I’m white, Black, brown, green, blue, or pink — whatever. I think we need to start looking beyond that. It would be a big win for women, period,” she was quoted as saying.
 
But when the article made it to social media with her quote, some women found the actor to be living in denial. They believe dismissing the term just yet would mean losing the battle many have been fighting for years because the disparity between different ‘colors’ and racism still very much exists in our socio-political environment.
 
“Neither do I, but the wage disparity, death by police, and mass incarceration of my sisters tells me that rather I like the wording or not – I am a Woman of Color. 
 
The moment I forget that I loose the battle for equality we’ve fought ever since we were sold on to this soil. From my coils to my nose all the way to my toes I am a Woman of color and reminded every day through the bigotry I face. Through the causal conversations overheard as I walk past. No. Never forget – because the world has not,” wrote a user.
 
 
However, not all disagree. There were women who supported Chopra and her thought.
 
Chopra might have meant emphasize on prevailing equality rather than judging one based on their color but the Internet, as we all know, is a strange place.
