Police Summon Actor Arbaaz Khan In IPL Betting Case

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 Jun, 2018 12:53 PM
  • Police Summon Actor Arbaaz Khan In IPL Betting Case
Thane Police on Friday summoned actor Arbaaz Khan, better known as superstar Salman Khan's older brother, for his alleged links to a bookie who is accused of operating a betting racket in connection with the latest edition of IPL.

According to sources here, the Thane police have asked Khan to appear before them on Saturday.

Khan was summoned after his name allegedly appeared in a diary belonging to bookie Sonu Jalan. Jalan along with three of his associates were arrested last month after they were found to be operating a website on which bets relating to IPL matches were being accepted.

Encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma, who heads the anti-extortion cell of the Thane police, had busted the gambling racket that may have collected as much as Rs 100 crore in the last few weeks, police sources said.

According to the police Jalan, who also goes by the nickname Sonu Malad, is linked to gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

Police sources say, the dairies recovered from Jalan indicate that Khan may have paid a few crore rupees to the alleged bookie. It is not clear whether Jalan had got Khan to place bets with him or extorted money from the actor-producer.

"All the information will be available after Khan has been questioned," Inspector Sharma told reporters here.
