Our audience ready to watch Indian actors talk English: Shabana

Darpan News Desk IANS, 06 Nov, 2014 11:57 AM
  • Our audience ready to watch Indian actors talk English: Shabana
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, whose English film "A Decent Arrangement" releases in India Friday, says the audience in the country is ready to accept their actors speaking in a different language and that language should never be a barrier in filmmaking.

Directed by Sarovar Banka, "A Decent Arrangement", about an Indian American, also stars Adam Laupus, Lethia Nall, Farid Currim, Shreya Sharma, Vikram Kapadia, Navniit Nisshan and Adhir Bhat.

Asked if she finds the audience accepting of English films, Shabana told IANS: "We have to understand that we have various kinds of audiences and there is a section of urban, English-speaking people who are ready to watch Indian people talking in English.

"I think language should never be a barrier for films as long as people want to watch them."

"A Decent Arrangement" is the story of Ashok Khosla (Adam Laupus), an Indian-American copywriter who journeys to India seeking an arranged marriage.

What's Shabana's view of the concept of arranged marriages in today's day and age?

"I don't think there is any hard and fast rule...we do find it strange that people agree to arranged marriages in today's date. But it's a common thing.

"It feels like a shot in the dark, but when you see and compare it with the number of love marriages, which end up in a disaster, I think it's a chance any which way. I think it's an individual choice," said the seasoned actress and philanthropist, who is married to writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
