After meeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Tuesday, actor Irrfan Khan said he has realised that politicians have their own challenges, and that “one man can't change the system".
Irrfan said "everyone will have to come together” to bring about the changes they want to see.
The actor met the Aam Aadmi Party supremo as part of the promotional activity for his film "Madaari", and talked about how the political world has changed and about freedom of expression in India.
After the meeting, the actor, who had also met and interviewed RJD chief Lalu Prasad last week, told media here: “We understood that those who are running the system have their own challenges. One man can't change the system. Everyone will have to come together.”
"Madaari”, which explores a father-son relationship and traces the plight of a common man who loses his son in an accident, also features Jimmy Sheirgill in a pivotal role. The film, which is slated to release on Friday, also highlights the political system of the nation.
Sharing his point of discussion with Kejriwal, Irrfan said: “He (Kejriwal) said that the common man will have to participate to bring the change. One man cannot bring the change. It doesn’t happen like that... We all have to come together and understand the system and participate to bring the change.”
The actor had arranged the meeting with Kejriwal via Twitter, and had also reached out to Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi via 'Office of RG' Twitter account and Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Twitter handle.
Irrfan, who is a name to reckon with in the Indian as well as international entertainment world, shared that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for the hard copy of the letter to know what we are talking about, so we are getting that ready. If he invites, then we will go there.”
What is the goal of meeting the politicians?
He said: “Our goal was to go there as a normal man and talk to people who running the system and the goal was not to criticise them. The idea was to discuss about the system and the challenges.”
