Not Selling Film Rights To Ram Chandra Series: Amish Tripathi

IANS, 23 Jan, 2016 02:26 PM
  • Not Selling Film Rights To Ram Chandra Series: Amish Tripathi
With Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions working on the script for the movie adaptation of his Shiva trilogy, best-selling author Amish Tripathi is not yet ready to go ahead with his next book series' film rights.

Tripathi revealed he was working on the second part of the Ram Chandra series of which "Scion of Ikshvaku" is the first book.

The Shiva trilogy ("The Immortals of Meluha", "The Secret of the Nagas" and "The Oath of the Vayuputras") was the first series.

"Shiva trilogy has been contracted by Dharma productions and they are working on the script right now. On the Ram Chandra series people have approached for movie rights but I don't want to contract it right now," Tripathi told IANS during the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet.

Reason for the tight leash?

"I am experimenting with a very different narrative structure which will become obvious to readers when the second book comes out. It's a little complicated," he said not divulging more.

"To be fair, I want those who buy the film rights to be aware of the narrative structure, so when the second book comes out only then (I can consider)," said the 41-year-old banker-turned-writer.

As for the Shiva trilogy, he expressed confidence in Dharma productions.

"You have to find someone who you can trust... they have passion and are aligned to the narrative," he added.
