Kalki Koechlin Shares Her Story: I Had An Unconventional Birth, I'm Unconventional Queen Now

  • Kalki Koechlin Shares Her Story: I Had An Unconventional Birth, I'm Unconventional Queen Now
Actress Kalki Koechlin says she is least bothered about whether she "fits in" Bollywood as she is highly passionate about the creative process of a film.

Asked if she feels that she has "fit in" in Bollywood, Kalki told IANS here: "I think I find my place in Indian cinema. But if you have asked me about such a thing, I don't know if I fit in... or I am a misfit because I am not concerned.

"I am not bothered about how many parties I attend or the number of invitations coming in. I work and that is something I am passionate about. It's my indulgence in characters that will drive me to do a lot of homework, and a story that will intrigue me to the core."

"Dev D", "That Girl in Yellow Boots", "Margarita with a Straw" and "A Death in the Gunj" are some of the unusual films that Kalki has done.

What sets Kalki apart is also how she openly praises other actresses. When Kalki's "Waiting" had a clash with Radhika Apte's "Phobia", she was generous in lauding the latter's work

"Yes, because I find talent sexy. If you have watched that film, you know the whole film was based on nothing but her performance. Then why not? She is a brilliant actress. You know every Friday, so many films are releasing, but not all the film create an impact in your mind. So I get excited to see good cinema. I thank people who are creating good cinema."

As the style of storytelling is changing and filmmakers are experimenting with subjects, Kalki said: "The practice of offering more choices to the audience is great.

"You, I, as audience love watching romantic comedies and comedy. At times, I enjoy watching documentaries. The good thing is filmmakers understood that choice is a luxury, and we want more choices, more variety of films. So this is the exciting phase in our cinema."

Kalki's next, "Ribbon", releases on November 3.
