I Won't Grow If India Does Not Grow: Kangana On Nationalism

  • I Won't Grow If India Does Not Grow: Kangana On Nationalism

In an interview making rounds on the social media, Bollywood’s ‘Queen’ actor Kangana Ranaut has touched upon the subject of the ban on Pakistani artists in India, which may not be the most exhilarating news for her fans across the border.

During an interview at the News18’s ‘Rising India Summit’, the 30-year-old actor presented views justifying the ban imposed on Pakistani artists that forbids them from working in India.

Distinguishing between the artistic and physical worlds, Kangana has stated: “Artistic realm is different from physical realm. When you are talking about physical boundaries and you are talking about borders, why be esoteric. You should know about a place where people are losing lives.”

The ‘Rangoon’ actor defended her perspective by stating that she’s a nationalist and the Pakistani artists coming in to the country are not paying taxes to India which is instead paid by the Indian soldiers fighting on the border.

“I said in some interviews that I am a nationalist. People said ‘oh you are that type of a person’. I was like ‘what do you mean by that kind?’ I personally feel that there is confusion between these words,” she stated.

She further added that “I meet people and it has become a cool thing to say bad things about your country. I hear the youths always complaining and whining that ‘the country does not have infrastructure and it is so dirty’… This attitude is not okay. If the country is dirty, then are you the guest?”

Kangana said that she is a nationalist and felt that her own progress as an individual is linked to the country’s growth. The actor said she does not believe in religion and has come to the conclusion that her only identity is that she is an Indian.

She added that if India does not grow, then even she won’t grow. Kangana pointed out that many a time she has been asked about being a nationalist with much surprise, but then she feels that there is a confusion between these words.

She also has talked about her view of PM Narendra Modi. Kangana has hailed Modi for being at the topmost coveted post in the country. Speaking at a session of News18 Rising India Summit on Saturday, Kangana said that she was a fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his success story.

The actress added that it was important that women need to have right role models. She said that PM Modi’s career graph makes him the “right role model” as the country has a Prime Minister who is a ‘chaiwala’ and it is not his victory, but the victory of our democracy.

Kangana also wondered why people have a problem with standing up for the National Anthem and cited the example of Americans who stand for their National Anthem. She was also critical of the people who whine about lack of infrastructure and cleanliness in the country and said they should take an initiative to clean the country.
