I Was Called A Giraffe Because I Was 'Too Tall': Sonam Kapoor

Darpan News Desk IANS, 16 Apr, 2019 05:28 PM

The actor explains that body shaming affects a person's mental health and needs to stop.

Sonam Kapoor was invited on Arbaaz Khan's talk show Quick Heal Pinch where she spoke up about what affects her most on social media and a lot of it had to do with attacks on her appearance.

"I feel if anyone attacks your family it's a negativity thing," she says, adding that she doesn't care if anyone targets her or her work.

"Family is very sacred to me so that can be a little hurtful. [In the same vein] I think Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma went through a lot of body shaming [online], I find that very mean because that can make you feel insecure about yourself, especially when you're an actress you have so many people looking at you and judging you for your looks or your body or your skin colour."

Sonam recalled a time when she was called names for looks. "Till I was a certain age I was called a giraffe because I was too thin. Then I gained weight and I had a hard time as well."

She added, "Sometimes you just don't put on weight and then people say 'Omg kitni palti hai'." She explains how saying things like, 'bohta moti ho gai hai, kali ho gai hai, lambi ho gai hai, shaadi kaun karey ga?' are not okay.
