I Got A Hindi Film Role Because Of Punjabi Films: Diljit Dosanjh

  • I Got A Hindi Film Role Because Of Punjabi Films: Diljit Dosanjh
Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently busy promoting his forthcoming film “Sardaar Ji”, says with time the budget of Punjabi films is increasing. He also feels constant support from viewers will help the industry expand.

“I got a Hindi film role because of Punjabi films. The budget of Punjabi films is increasing with time and they are being released on more and more screens. If we keep getting such kind of support from the viewers, then the Punjabi film industry is going to do great,” Diljit said at an event here.

"Sardaar Ji", releasing on June 26, is made at a budget of Rs.11 crore.

Diljit, who has urged his fans not to have a lot of expectations from him, was in the capital along with his "Sardaar Ji" co-star Mandy Takhar and director Rohit Jugraj, to promote their film on Friday.

“Please don't have expectations from me, I'm only enjoying my life. Even I don't have any expectations from myself. I never thought if my films would do good or not, and I still don't,” he said.

Diljit, whose "Punjab 1984" won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Punjabi, says he feels honoured that the film bagged the accolade.

“It is a big honour for us that 'Punjab 1984' won the National Film Award. When we started making the film, we were a little apprehensive. We feared the movie might be banned, or might no do well. But it is great that Punjabi films are getting a wider audience and being featured at international film festivals.”

The 31-year-old actor is making his Bollywood debut with Abhishek Chaubey's “Udta Punjab” and says he did not feel pressured while filming the movie.

“It's a star-studded cast... A-listers of Bollywood are working in the film. They were a little tense about making such a big film, but I didn't feel any pressure,” said the actor, who features with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor in the movie.
