Actress Sonali Bendre, who is undergoing a metastatic cancer treatment here, in an emotional social media post has shared how her 12-year-old son Ranveer dealt with her cancer news.
Sonali on Thursday took to her Instagram and uploaded a picture with her son along with the post.
She says since Ranveer was born, "his happiness and well-being have been the centre of anything" that her husband Goldie Behl and she did.
"And so, when the Big C reared its ugly head, our biggest dilemma was what and how we were going to tell him," Sonali wrote.
They wanted to protect him, but wanted him to know the full truth.
And she was surprised, "he took the news so maturely and instantly became my source of strength and positivity for me.
"In some situations now, he even reverses roles and takes on being the parent, reminding me of things I need to do," Sonali added.
Giving fans some parenting advice, Sonali said: "I believe that it's imperative to keep kids involved in a situation like this. They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. It's important to spend time with them and include them, rather than make them wait on the side-lines, not being told yet instinctively knowing everything.
"In our effort to protect them from the pain and realities of life, we might end up doing the opposite."
Ranveer is currently with his mother here during his summer vacation.
"His madness and shenanigans help me switch on the sunshine. And today, we derive strength from each other," added the actress, who believes in taking one day at a time.
Post her diagnosis, the "Sarfarosh" actress is quite active on social media platforms and constantly gives updates about her health to the fans.
Her positivity in these times of personal strife has been lauded widely on social media, especially when she shared a photograph in which she is seen smiling ear-to-ear as she sports a new haircut -- denoting that she is battling cancer with resilience.
And as Sonali touches many hearts with this one inspiring post, Hrithik Roshan’s comment is exactly what we want to say. He wrote, “He (Ranveer) is unique. Don’t know who amazes me more, u, him or Goldie.” Karan Johar too shared similar thoughts saying, “Sonali, you are truly a source of tremendous inspiration….your son will be your biggest strength.”
Her 40s have been eventful and enlightening. Actress Manisha Koirala, a cancer survivor, says contrary to common perception that middle-aged female actors get less work in Bollywood, she feels liberated more than ever.
Actress Nora Fatehi, who indulges in different styles like belly dancing and hip hop, will star in the official video of an Arabic singer's original song.
Actress Taapsee Pannu, who is gearing up for the release of her forthcoming courtroom drama "Mulk", says it is disturbing to see a particular religion being targeted.
"I think every film and every experience helps you grow and learn, I would say Mani Ratnam's film and 'Padmaavar' made me believe that if you have a dream and your intentions are guided by that dream then it does come true," Aditi told IANS in an interview here.
Words like democracy and patriotism have lost their significance in today's age, and there's a need to "retrieve" them, says National Award winning filmmaker Saeed Akhtar Mirza.
