Gurinder Chadha Is Lovely But Very Tough Director, Says Huma Qureshi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 30 Jun, 2017 01:11 PM
  • Gurinder Chadha Is Lovely But Very Tough Director, Says Huma Qureshi
Actress Huma Qureshi, who is making her Hollywood debut with Gurinder Chadha's film "Partition: 1947", says the director is lovely, but very tough to work with as she never gets convinced easily.

"Gurinder is a lovely director but very tough. She doesn't get happy easily with what you are doing and she will keep working till she gets what she wants from actors or on any other technical aspect," Huma said here on Thursday at the trailer launch of the film.

"I feel that's brilliant because this film is not easy to make. In her films, females always have strong presence, so I was very excited to work with her. It was a very unusual Gurinder Chadha film. Like we associate her with 'Bride and Prejudice' or 'Bend It Like Beckham' -- these were very slice-of-life problem films, but this 'Partition: 1947' was a much bigger film, so it was brave on her part to make a film like this," she added.

Apart from this Hollywood project, Huma is also working with megastar Rajinikanth in a Tamil film.

Talking about working in different languages, she said: "I have never chased Hollywood or particular industry. I chase creativity and good films. After this, I am doing a film in Tamil language, so language is not the concern. If there would be a good script, I am ready to work in different languages and across territories."

"Partition: 1947" is based on the inside life of the Viceroy's House during India's partition. It was screened at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival as "Viceroy's House" and it stars Gillian Anderson, late actor Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Michael Gambon.
