FIR Lodged Against TV Actress Smita Bansal And Her Family For Dowry Harassment

Darpan News Desk IANS, 29 Dec, 2015 01:55 PM
TV actress Smita Bansal is in legal trouble, as her sister-in-law Megha Gupta (married to her brother Saurabh), has registered an FIR against the actress and her family for dowry harassment.

Megha has alleged that her husband Saurabh and his family have taken away her jewellery and money.

Megha got married to Saurabh in 2009, and was staying in London with him. However, she came back to her mother's house in Gurgaon this year, after she was allegedly harassed for dowry.

In her complaint, Megha has reportedly stated that her husband and father-in-law forced her to take up a job and took away Rs 50 lakh from her. She also accused Smita of wearing her jewellery at a wedding in Jaipur without her consent.

Smita was also recently in the news as reports surfaced of the actress joining the AAP. The actress had denied the rumours saying she was just a supporter of Arvind Kejriwal and had no political ambitions.

Denying all charges of theft and dowry harrassment levelled against her she told press, "I am shocked. Two people (Megha and husband Saurabh) have been through a divorce and divorce is not something of a taboo anymore. My brother(Saurabh) and bhabhi were settled in London and were not in India. They were going through divorce proceedings for the past two months."

One fine day I get up at eight in the morning and I get clippings from all over Gurgaon from my friend stating that I have been accused of robbery. I don’t even know when I got involved in this. As of now, I am in a state of shock. And secondly, I don’t know why I am being dragged into it. They are in London. Divorce is filed in London and not here. I don’t know how an FIR has been filed against me here?"
