Don't Need To Bring Others Down To Show Indians Are Good: Meghna Gulzar

IANS, 18 May, 2018 01:42 PM
Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who is currently celebrating the success of her latest release "Raazi", believes that there was no need to bring Pakistanis down to show Indians were right on their path in the story.

Meghna along with "Raazi" team was present at the success party of the film on Wednesday.

When asked why Meghna as a director, unlike other filmmakers, opted not to show the Pakistanis in bad light, she said: "Because they are human too, they are just like us. And to shows ourselves good we don't have to show others bad or evil."

"It was our intention to show what we wanted with simplicity and truth for which we didn't have to become preachy or develop a propaganda. The story was such that we did not need these additional traits."

Karan Johar, who hosted the press conference and also is associated with the film as co-producer, was asked how Dharma Production did a film like this which is out of their usual genre.

"We have really tried to break the myth of what people perceive Dharma production to be and we have done films that have broken the mould but we are still being asked this question so, there is something we are doing wrong.

"I don't know what to do, as people only remember us by 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham'," Said Karan.

Based on Harinder Sikka's book "Calling Sehmat", the story of "Raazi" revolves around a young Kashmiri girl who gets married to a Pakistani Army officer and becomes a spy to give inside information about the neighbouring country to protect her own.

Alia Bhatt plays Sehmat in the film while Vicky Kaushal essays the Pakistani officer's role.
