Don't like to run after directors: Nushrat Bharucha

  • Don't like to run after directors: Nushrat Bharucha
After winning hearts with films such as "Pyaar Ka Punchnama" and "Akaash Vani", actress Nushrat Bharucha, who is all set for the release of her Tamil debut "Valeba Raja", says she always likes to work with directors who want to work with her.

"I don't like running after directors for films. I happened to sign 'Valeba Raja' because the director saw his character in me. He felt that I was part of his vision. I like to work with such directors who want to work with me," Nushrat told IANS.

Directed by Sai Gokul Ramnath, "Valeba Raja" also features Sethu, Vishakha Singh and Santhanam in lead roles.

Nushrat said it was Vishakha who recommended her name for the film.

"Vishakha and I are good friends. She suggested my name to the director and Gokul called me because he was also convinced after watching 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama'. When Gokul narrated the script, what I really liked is that he wanted someone like me for the character," she said.

"I hardly had any time to even think it through because he wanted me to shoot in a week's time. It was a new language and I hardly had time to prepare. But it worked for both of us because the character I play is in sync with my screen persona. Moreover, since Vishakha was already part of the film, I was at ease," she added.

"Valeba Raja" is a light-hearted comedy and Nushrat says her director "has a nice grip of what the youth enjoys".

"There's nothing serious, social or too intelligent about the film. It's a fun film and audiences will enjoy it more because they can easily relate with it. I play a character that's like one edge of the film. My character breaks the cliches associated with a south Indian girl," she said.

Having worked in Bollywood romantic films, Nushrat feels that southern films in the same genre have the local flavour.

"I feel romantic films in south have a local flavour, which I feel people in Bollywood won't even understand. Bollywood either makes intelligent or slapstick comedies, there's nothing in between that's funnier. The normalcy of comedy is missing in Hindi romantic films," said Nushrat.

Meanwhile, the actress is currently shooting for Hindi film "Meerutiya Gangsters", which is being directed by Zeeshan Quadri, writer of "Gangs of Wasseypur".
