Bollywood comedy legend Jagdeep passes away at 81.

  • Bollywood comedy legend Jagdeep passes away at 81.

Some sad news out of Bollywood, another death following the recent death of Rishi Kapoor,  Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Saroj Khan actor Jagdeep best known for comedic roles passed away on Wednesday in Mumbai. 

He was dealing with health issues and died at the age of 81. 

Jagdeep’s most loved character is Soorma Bhopali in Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay. His catchphrase in the film “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahin hai” is still remembered by fans.

Jagdeep is also remembered for his performance in the comedy film Andaz Apna Apna, where he played Salman Khan’s father Bankelal.

He also featured in a few Ramsay Brothers horror films including Purana Mandir. His work in films like Qurbani and Shehenshah is also noteworthy.

He aslo tasted direction when he made the film Soorma Bhopali in 1988, which was a spin on his own character from Sholay. He played the central character here. Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Rekha made cameo appearances in Soorma Bhopali.

Jagdeep started his career as a child artist and was seen in films like Bimal Roy’s Do Bigha Zamin, KA Abbas’ Munna and Guru Dutt’s Aar Paar. A career of over 60 years, in the entertainment world he acted in 400 films.

Actors such as Raveena Tandon, Ajay Devgun, and Tusshar Kapoor all shared their condolances over Twitter. 

Jagdeep’s last rites will take place Thursday at Shia Kabrastan in Mumbai.
