Bollywood Adaptive To International Music Scene: Mika

IANS, 13 Dec, 2016 11:36 AM
  • Bollywood Adaptive To International Music Scene: Mika
Singer Mika Singh says Bollywood music is a big hit all over the world "because of its ability to adapt and grow with the international music trends".

"Our music has strong melody and Bollywood is very adaptive to the international music scene as well. So, it is not surprising that our music has done so well outside of India as much as within it.

I think Bollywood music will take over the world one day," Mika told IANS in an email interaction from Dubai.

Often Bollywood music artistes are censured for taking inspiration from the west. But Mika, who performed at the Global Village's India Pavilion in Dubai last month along with Sunidhi Chauhan, says that "there is no question of ‘western' influences as such because music has no boundaries".

"Bollywood is a success because of its ability to adapt and grow with the international music trends. There is no question of ‘western' influences as such because music has no boundaries. Bollywood uses music influences even from Arabic music if it is befitting to the scene or style of a movie. Bollywood is Bollywood - its music is an amalgamation of many styles," he added.

The singer, best known for his songs like "Mauja hi mauja", "Subah hone na de" and "Sawan mein lag gaye aag", generated a lot of buzz with his lunch date with Grammy Award winning artiste Shaggy.

He says he is collaborating with him for a video shoot, and is excited about it.

Mika said his goal is "to release two hit songs in a year and focus the rest of my year in performing all over the world".

"I do nearly 200 shows a year for my fans that live across the world and in India," he said.
