Are Baywatch Makers Now Uncertain About Priyanka Chopra’s Stardom?

IANS, 29 May, 2017 02:01 PM
  • Are Baywatch Makers Now Uncertain About Priyanka Chopra’s Stardom?
Baywatch has released to the world to a noticeably colder response with critics panning the film on multiple accounts.

The critics also noticed Priyanka’s negligible presence in the film. The box office collections further add to the film’s sinking fate overseas, as it minted only $4.5 million, including collections from paid previews on the first day.

Critics have thrashed the film for its immature content and bad performances and even said that a big star like Dwayne Johnson could not save it.

With the film witnessing an insipid international run, we contemplate its fate in the domestic market.

However, what is notable is the decision of the makers of Baywatch, who chose to ignore Priyanka Chopra’s home ground for promotions.

The only Indian promotion includes a poster featuring Priyanka, while the makers and lead actor Dwayne Johnson choose to refrain from addressing Indian media.

It is ironic that Baywatch, which is being touted as a Priyanka Chopra’s film in India, has the Indian actor absent on the international poster.

Earlier this year, Vin Diesel visited India to promote xXx: The Return of Xander Cage starring Deepika Padukone as the female lead.

The film was not only extensively promoted in India, but was also released in the Indian market prior to its international release, paving way for a grand introduction to Deepika’s film in India. The move surely implied the confidence the makers of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage had in the Indian audience in addition to Deepika’s gigantic fandom.

It seems that India doesn’t fit in the scheme of things of the Baywatch makers. This surely puts a question mark over what they think of Priyanka as a crowd puller in India.
