Ankita Lokhande Pens A Powerful Post, Says She Is 'Scared' Of Reading The Newspapers

  • Ankita Lokhande Pens A Powerful Post, Says She Is 'Scared' Of Reading The Newspapers

Following Tanushree Dutta’s allegations of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar, several women have come forward to share their horrific accounts of sexual misconduct at the hands of Bollywood celebrities.

Besides Nana Patekar, author-screenwriter Chetan Bhagat, singer Kailash Kher, filmmaker Vikas Bahl and actor-filmmaker Rajat Kapoor have been accused of sexual misbehavior by different anonymous women. Now, it looks like India’s own #MeToo movement has finally begun.

And while it is great that Indian women have ultimately gained courage to stand up for themselves, their stories have created an atmosphere of fear. At least, that’s what actress Ankita Lokhande believes. In a long post that the actress shared on Twitter, she said that she was “scared” of reading the newspapers and going through social media.

Among many questions that she raised in her powerful post, she asked why a man thought that it was okay to sexually exploit a woman and had no fear of the consequences.

She also asked why a woman is asked why did it take her so long to speak up.

“Sad, angry and extremely irritated,” Ankita reinforced that if a woman meant no, it still meant no.

The actress had a strong advice for parents as well. She wrote, “Instead of telling your little what length her skirt should be, please start telling your little boy how not to violate a girl in any way.”

She signed off asking an important question: “Is this the world we are building for our future generation?”
