Filmmaker Karan Johar says littering is a global menace that needs to be tackled.

Karan's banner Dharma Productions has produced an advertisement which aims to underline the importance of cleanliness.

On Wednesday, he tweeted a link of the ad, directed by Punit Malhotra. The video features actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt as astronauts.

"Littering is a global menace we need to tackle. This ad makes me so proud to be associated with a cause championed by Adar Poonawalla that aims to make a difference Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Punit Malhotra," he captioned the image.

Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative is a city-wide awareness campaign that works towards making cities in India more livable. This initiative stresses on scientific and effective management of waste and urges the citizens to take the necessary action to keep their city clean and green.

Alia shared the ad's link too: "Our planet.. Our home! Our duty to keep it clean."

On the initiative, Malhotra, Head, Dharma 2.0, said: "The response that the first ad garnered has only been positive and we know it has touched the right chords with the audience."

This is not the first time Alia, Varun and Karan have collaborated professionally.

The three have previously worked together in films like "Student Of The Year", "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" and "Badrinath Ki Dulhania".
