Ali Asgar Was Not Keen On Playing 'Daadi' In 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'

Darpan News Desk IANS, 23 Jan, 2016 02:46 PM
  • Ali Asgar Was Not Keen On Playing 'Daadi' In 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'
Well-known TV actor Ali Asgar who played the role of ‘daadi’ in “Comedy Nights with Kapil” was initially sceptical to take up the show as he was not willing to get in the garb of a female.

Earlier in “Comedy Circus”, Ali played a female character in most of the episodes and when he was offered to play a woman on screen again, he was reluctant.

“To get into the attire of a woman, I was skeptical. I was not that keen on taking up the show. As I had done enough of such parts…I was fed up doing it. It is not that I had doubt on Kapil Sharma’s capability,” Ali told.

“He (Kapil) asked me to try out for one or two episodes and then decide what I should do. As initially, the show was only going to be of 26 episodes, but the response to the show was fabulous,” he said.

Ali’s portrayal of ‘alcoholic daadi,’ who flirts and breaks into dance at the drop of a hat on the show, became immensely popular.

“The kissing (part) just happened, we did not anticipate that it will be loved by the audience and celebrities. When Amitabh Bachchan was going to come on the show there were lot of do’s and dont’s, even I was nervous. He surprised us. He was friendly…he even kissed me instead me kissing him,” he added.

“I have done several shows but the kind of response …the love that I got for this role was amazing. My fan following also increased a lot. I am grateful to Kapil (Sharma) and the audience for their never ending love,” he added.

Praising Kapil, he said, “He has an amazing comic timing…he understands the pulse of the audience. He is one of the best comedians that we have today.”

Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar have come on the show to promote their respective films. But, Ali had fun when cricketers visited the show. “I was excited when cricketers like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Irfan Pathan and others used to come on the show,” he said.

He thanks audience for their love and support for “Comedy Night With Kapil”, which goes off air soon. “The show has been a huge hit due to the celebrities. They opened their lives with us. They gave us that much liberty to do everything with them,” he added.

Honestly, after working for 17 years in the industry, the age of the character is no priority. In fact, I don’t even mind playing a grandmother if the role is substantial
