  • Akshay Kumar meets Kejriwal to discuss farmers' issues
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar on Tuesday met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to discuss issues related to the country's farming sector.

The actor, who has been busy promoting his forthcoming film "Singh Is Blinng", spoke to Kejriwal for 30 minutes, and they discussed issues related to the farming sector, growing farmers' suicides and ways to help farmers get out of the distress situation, read a statement from the Directorate of Information and Publicity.

Akshay, who raised funds for 100 farmer families with an event here, also briefed Kejriwal on the work he has been doing for the farmers.

Kejriwal expressed concern over the suicides of farmers in some parts of the country and asked how the Delhi government could be of help in extending a helping hand to the farmers.

"We will do whatever we can. We must devise a method to help. It’s very disheartening to see the situation. They are the ones who feed us; we must take care of them. We need to get to the root cause of the problem. They must get their due,” Kejriwal said.

Akshay agreed and said: "We must come forward to help them. People are not happy farming, we must go back to our roots, it is very important. We need to have a campaign for the cause.”

Kejriwal also explained to the visiting actor on how the farmers don’t get their due and the middlemen make money at their cost. He gave the example of hoarding of grains and pulses and how middlemen profit from it.

He even mentioned that all good people should come together for the cause, which affect the society, to which Akshay said that everyone should do his bit and that way the situation can be changed.
