Bollywood star Akshay Kumar on Saturday expressed his desire to play legendary wrestler and actor Dara Singh onscreen if a biopic is ever made on the late icon.
At the launch of "Deedara Aka Dara Singh", a book based on Dara Singh's life, written by Seema Sonik Alimchand, Akshay said: "If Bindu (Dara Singh's son) requests me, I would like to play the role of Dara Singh in his biopic."
Akshay, who is fit as a fiddle at 49, also spoke about the kind of preparation he might have to go through to portray the role.
"Dara Singh was a huge man and I have to justify his appearance. I need at least two years to put on that kind of bulk and look like a wrestler," he said.
About the legendary wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh, who passed away in 2012, Akshay said: "Once, Dara Singh saab came for an inauguration. Somehow, I managed to get three tickets and I went there with my sister and father, who was also a wrestler."
"There was a popular story then, that Dara Singh had a trishul (Trident) on his back, which gave him all the power. If he was furious, his third eye would open and he would beat his opponents black and blue."
On the professional front, Akshay will be seen next in a science fiction film "2.0", written and directed by Shankar. The film, which features megastar Rajinikanth and actress Amy Jackson, is slated to release next year.
