6 reasons to watch Gully Boy

By Hungama.com, 16 Feb, 2019 12:18 AM

Every time we hear the name ‘Ranveer Singh’ we picture a really macho man with an attractive moustache and beard ready to fight crime. But in Gully Boy, he isn’t anything like that all! The director (Zoya Akhtar) has depicted the movie in such a manner that our country sees rap from a different perspective and changes their opinion on the genre.

After seeing this movie and seeing how much Naved Shaikh (Ranveer Singh) had to go through to become a successful rapper, the current struggling rappers in our country just like Naved, will not give up hope and will continue to do what they love and follow their dreams. Now, I’m going to tell you why Gully Boy is the movie you’re going to want to watch in six reasons.

    1. Ranveer Singh
One of the main reasons everyone wants to watch the movie is because Ranveer Singh is playing the lead role in this movie. Ranveer is the type of person who respects everyone which makes him one of the industry’s most loved celebrities. His energy and liveliness spreads a positive vibe and uplifts everyone’s mood. In this movie, he plays the character of an aspiring rapper Naved Shaikh (Naezy) and portrays the various difficulties that he (Naezy) had to face while he climbed to the top and accomplished his dreams.

Ranveer himself says “It’s very close to my heart. My first film, Band Baaja Baaraat is very special to me. After that, if there’s any film that’s close to my heart, it’s Gully Boy. I want to put these boys (rappers Naezy and Divine) in the spotlight. I want to be a champion for their cause and provide a bigger platform for such amazing talents to shine through.”

    2. For rap fans and artists
This movie is going to be an inspiration to all the ‘gully boys’ out there in our country. The movie depicts and shows the struggles that ‘rappers in the making’ face. While the film is going to be an inspiration, the film also promotes rap, the most misunderstood form of music in our country and how it affects the personal lives of these rappers and their families.

In the song ‘Asli Hip Hop’ Ranveer raps about how he was going to introduce “real hip hop” to India and that is exactly what Akhtar wanted to do; give India an idea about what hip hop actually is.

    3. Songs
You get a great collection of Gully Boy songs (18 to be exact). The song ‘Asli Hip Hop’ sung by Ranveer has already become a superhit song along with ‘Meri Gully Mein’ which is sung by DIVINE, Naezy and Ranveer! ‘Doori, Sher aaya sher, Train Song and Azadi are some of the many songs in the Gully Boy movie. However, this isn’t the song that is getting everyone’s attention. The song ‘Apna Time Aayega’ sung by Ranveer and DIVINE is the most loved song from the film.

    4. Zoya Akhtar
Zoya Akhtar is the director and co-writer of the film Gully Boy. After directing Dil Dhadakne Do, Akhtar stumbled through some gully rap and came across stories of rappers like Naezy and DIVINE. Akhtar is really good at her work as a director and writer.

We can see this from the previous movies that she has been involved in. The hype that Gully Boy has created is really massive. This scares Akhtar slightly because she doesn’t want to disappoint the fans and lower their expectations. Akhtar had already worked with Ranveer in Dil Dhadakne Do which made it really easy and comfortable for both of them during shoots.

    5. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt is a very versatile actress. She has played almost all types of roles in her movies. It is very interesting to see her play the role of Sakina, Naved’s girlfriend. She plays a pivotal role in the movie. Ranveer and Alia have done various commercial shoots together and they have a sizzling chemistry together. Now with Gully Boy here, the two stars get yet another chance to work together, but this time on a film. This movie will definitely become a super hit.

    6. Based on a true story
The film Gully Boy is loosely based on rappers DIVINE and Naezy. The story is about all the difficulties they had to face as aspiring rappers and how they were affecting the lives of people that they love. The passion and determination that they had towards rap took them to where they are today. These two have come a long way from rapping about their city and country from their gullies.

Naved (Naezy) had once said that he was a pick pocketer at a particular point of time in his life. Currently, he is one of India’s top rappers. Naved Shaikh is clearly an example of ‘rags to riches’. Gully Boy is going to bring the spotlight on people like Naezy and most importantly the hip hop scene in India.
