A Punjabi-Canadian artist won the fan choice award at last night's Juno Awards in Halifax.

B-C-raised singer and rapper Karan Aujla beat out powerhouse artists The Weeknd, Tate McRae and Charlotte Cardin for the honour, along with fellow Punjabi-Canadian rapper Shubh.

Montreal's Charlotte Cardin won the Juno for album of the year for "99 Nights."

Ottawa-raised Talk -- the singer behind the hit single "Run Away to Mars" -- won breakthrough artist.

Hip-hop pioneer Maestro Fresh Wes was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and there was a moving tribute to late artists Gordon Lightfoot, Robbie Robertson and Karl Tremblay.
