Diljit Dosanjh starrer 'Jodi Teri Meri' releasing day before in Canada on May 4th

Chandigarh, May 3 (IANS) A court in Punjab's Ludhiana has stayed the release of Punjabi film 'Jodi Teri Meri', a biopic starring Diljit Dosanjh on the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila and his second wife Amarjot Kaur.
The film is slated for release worldwide on May 5th but it is releasing a day before on May 4th in Canada.
Civil Judge (Junior Division) Karandeep Kaur has ordered to issue summons to Dosanjh, actress Nimrat Khaira, Gurmail Kaur, the wife of Chamkila, Karaj Gill of Rhythm Boyz Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Daljit Thind of Daljit Motions Films returnable by May 8, the next date of hearing.
The order on Tuesday came weeks after another court in Ludhiana had stayed the "broadcast, release and streaming" of another biopic on the couple, titled 'Chamkila'.
Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur were gunned down on March 8, 1988, during militancy in Punjab.
"From the documents, a prima facie case is made out in favour of plaintiff (Ishdeep Randhawa). Balance of convenience is also in his favour and if defendants are not restrained from releasing the film 'Jodi Teri Meri", then an irreparable loss will be caused to the plaintiff, which cannot be compensated with any cost," says the order.
"Accordingly, defendants are hereby restrained from releasing the film on May 5 except in due course of law till next date of hearing (May 8)," added the order.
Singing sensation B Praak, who has belted out hits-after-hits such as 'Ranjha' and 'Mann Bharryaa 2.0' among many others, said that 'Teri Mitti' from the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Kesari' was one of the toughest numbers he has ever sung. He also added that every time before he goes on stage, his ritual is to pray to god for a good show.
His debut album PBX1 ranked 66th on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and his hit single 47’ was ranked on the UK singles chart. His track “Banbiha Bole” also entered the top 5 list on the global YouTube music chart. Since his death, fans and celebrities alike have paid their tribute and expressed their grief through social media.
The song features a classic setup of the Punjab farms and the age old but yet a favourite, falling in love on the terrace of the house. The film also stars Jasmin Bhasin. Gippy and Jasmin's chemistry is palpable in the song and is bound to bring a smile on the viewers' face with their love story.
His YouTube account currently has around 17 million subscribers. To date Moosewala's YouTube channel has the highest number of subscribers of any Punjabi artist. He gained immense popularity with his track “So High” in 2018 which made him a global name. The artist was imprisoned after being given a two-year prison term on July 14 for illegally transporting people abroad while they were acting as members of his band. Police had registered a case against the singer, his brother Shamsher Singh -- who died in October 2017 -- and two others, after it was alleged that the accused took money from people to the tune of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of taking them abroad.
'Jogi' charts a story of three friends who unite to save hundreds during the riots that tear apart their city. Apart from Diljit, the film's lead star cast includes Kumud Mishra, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Hiten Tejwani and Amyra Dasturi. In the film, Diljit's character, Jogi, advocates brotherhood, unity and courage to fight against all odds and go the extra mile to protect his loved ones.
