Celebrating the Extraordinaire!

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 12 Sep, 2014

The South Asian community is thriving and has contributed immensely towards the Canadian economy. Several individuals from the community have delivered their expertise in a range of fields, making not only the South Asian community proud but also inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.  With a motive to inspire and honour the efforts of such individuals in the community, DARPAN has been organizing the prestigious Extraordinary Achievement Awards for the past four years and will mark its 5th year anniversary in a grand and lavish setting on September 19th at Surrey’s newest and most beautiful banquet hall -- the Aria Banquet Hall and Convention Centre.

Widely recognised as the event-of-the-year in the South Asian community, the Extraordinary Achievement awards recognize and honour the extraordinary achievements of ten individuals in ten different award categories against a backdrop of glitz and glamour. These categories are: Young Wonder, Artistic Visionary, Community Crusader, Breaking Barriers, Heritage Defender, Spirit of Sport, Advancing Philanthropy, Industry Marvel, Corporate Engagement and International Sensation.  This grand event will feature gourmet cuisine, thrilling entertainment, stunning fashion show, an inspiring Keynote Speaker and of course, the award ceremony itself. All of this, in the company of prominent social, political and business leaders, will create an awards night that is sure to be a magical and celebratory.

The awards are unique in being a platform for the South Asian community to gather and recognize the contributions and successes of individuals. "The South Asian community is growing leaps and bounds. DARPAN's Extraordinary Achievement Awards provide a platform for the community to integrate and bestow the difference makers with honour and recognition," says Gurvinder Hundal, one of the publishers of DARPAN Magazine.

Last year’s award recipients included Dr. Narinder Kapany who received the award for International Sensation and also served as the night’s Keynote Speaker: "I was impressed with the quality of 700 guests attending the function, which consisted of numerous MP's, MLA's, professionals and high level business executives. [Also] the quality of various entertainments was truly superior!"

Hailed as the ‘Father of Fiber Optics,' Dr. Narinder Kapany is a physicist whose early pioneering research in the 1950’s into the world of fiber optics and physics were paramount in aiding the development of the Internet, lasers, solar energy and optic communications. A brilliant visionary and contributor to modern science and technology, Narinder Kapany is just one of many past recipients of the prestigious awards who serve as inspiration for others to strive to do extraordinary work and in turn, become extraordinary.

DARPAN’s goal is to celebrate the extraordinary and the much-anticipated annual Extraordinary Achievement Awards hope to do just that in an inspirational and unforgettable evening. We look to forward to seeing you at our 5th annual Extraordinary Achievement Awards and in making this evening an unforgettable one for all attendees!
